Club Méditerranée

The project involves the redevelopment of the area corresponding to the beach of the Ex Club Mediterranèe located in Palinuro, a renowned seaside resort in Cilento. In 1956 Palinuro was chosen by the French entrepreneurs, Gérard Blitz and Gilbert Trigano, as the ideal place to host the Club Med, as it was an uncontaminated land, with few services but rich in natural beauty, all elements that fully embraced the philosophy of French company. Palinuro became an elite tourist destination, tourists who chose to spend their holidays within the Club were catapulted into a Polynesian paradise, made of straw tukul, flowers and crystal clear waters. The magic lasted twenty years, in fact in 1980 the Club Med went away forever. Since then the entire area has been exploited for private use, up to today, in a state of abandonment. The choice of place is linked to a strong emotional motivation. The goal was to design a new formula for a more fluid and open tourist village, which would redevelop the area and bring it back to its former glory. The design of the housing modules starts from the recovery of the original form of the tucul of the Club Méditerranée, i.e. hexagonal-shaped houses built in straw and wood. We wanted to keep the original shape to create a common thread between the past and the present, so as to bring the Club back to its former glory and rethink it in a contemporary key. The size of each house is 15 square meters, the area has been defined on the basis of the minimum dimensions necessary to accommodate the three main functions of a house, namely: sleeping area, living area and service area.
